There is so much suffering in the world. It’s not just human suffering but animal suffering as well. As you’re reading this, there is an animal which is being eaten alive right now in the wild. And you’re complaining about a button on your phone?! Seriously?!

The button is just so far out of reach of the index finger.

I think Apple wanted the button just to get people to take more pictures so people take up more storage on their phones so they are incentivized to upgrade iCloud storage which will increase Apple’s services revenue.

Been using this for a week now, yeah the button is not very helpful…
I basically just use it as a camera shortcut which let me take the camera button off the lock screen and notification center.
It’s convenient for taking photos one-handed without holding the absolute bottom of your phone, but then, the volume buttons have for years been usable as a photo trigger already. 🫥 One of two things I gain from having it can be done with a volume button on this same phone…
This feature makes no sense, besides as an attempt at making AI features seem more attractive because “they’re so important and we know (when they’re actually finished) people will use them so much, that we had to accommodate it in the physical design—they need to be able to shortcut to Visual Intelligence at any time!” But honestly, because these phones shipped without it, no, nobody can actually say for sure this is true. This button feels like a gamble on or attempt to manifest an attitude towards features we can’t even use or judge yet.
Scrap this next year and make the power button usable for TouchID if it’s not under-screen. Overall I like this phone despite it being a bit bland (it was a five-year upgrade), but there are features people have wanted for years and are still waiting on. Because no, this button seems almost certain not to be a “we showed people what they never knew they wanted/needed, but do” situation. Head back to the drawing board.

I had to bring my first iphone 16 pro back as the camera capture button freaked the phone out. it would freeze on a black screen after i pressed it to take a picture and then when i could get it to work it wouldn’t save the pics i tool and the phone got so hot after 6 consecutive photos it said the phone had to cool down before i could use it. That is not all the things the camera button did but you get the gist. My exchange phone is ok but there is still a stutter when i press the capture button to open the camera. Thinking of bringing this one back as well.

I like real physical buttons, like you have on dedicated cameras.. I’m thinking Bridget just needs more time to get used to new things, new things that are actually like the older things once more common, and simply blames the design for what is actually her inability to adopt to better things.

I don’t hate the button, but if I could turn off all the half-press features that’d be nice. A little camera click and zoom is fine, but if I’m holding the phone and not paying attention to it, there is now a whole extra way it could be messing up itself…

I appreciate added offscreen controls on a phone. It’s only implementation and calibration that needs tweaking.
6:14 for tardy upgraders. For myself, I think I’ll get an iphone 20 promax … after the release of the iphone 23

Guys we desperately need a feature for the iPhone 16 any ideas?,
Hey, what about a camera button?
Yeah, great idea.

There’s no reason that Apple can allow users to repurpose that button if they don’t want to use it for the camera
@PassportBrosBusinessClass

These phones should have had the camera button since iPhone 12. Apple’s problem is that they have peaked and they really don’t have any new ideas. All they can do at this point is trickle out features that you should have already had.
I am currently using an iPhone 14 Pro Max one terabyte. It’s thus far been the best iPhone I’ve ever had and I’m sure the iPhone 15 and 16 are better. I refuse to upgrade until they give us 2 TB of storage because I make videos for my YouTube Vlogs using iPhone and I don’t want cloud storage.
Looks like I’ll have to wait till the iPhone 17.

so what’s the problem here? just use it the way u have been using, the camera button is there for those that prefer it, i tried it and have no problem executing the half press consistently, and that’s the only thing i miss from sony’s phone.

There are some other videos out there that show that in 18.1 you can control and refine the camera control button further. It may even be in 18.0. There is a section called camera control

That camera button is a big step backwards I remember the days when android was implementing dedicated camera buttons on there smartphones. I would rather that button had been for Touch ID. I guess will see in a couple of years apple will have IR blasters on there iPhones always late to the party.

I’m sorry but I’ve been an iPhone hater for years and this is the icing on the cake. The original iPhone was DESIGNED to make physical buttons OBSOLETE… Now we’re going backwards??? Save your money; buy a Huawei Mate XT.

The button is just for marketing purposes. Good decision I bought 15 than 16 and low the price
