Amazon’s Home Security Robot: The REAL Reasons to Own One (Astro Review)
More than just an Amazon Echo Show on wheels. See it here: Amazon’s $1,000 robot assistant is available by invite only. It’s ambitious, experimental and exciting. But it’s also still searching for a purpose — and working out some serious kinks. 0:00 Intro 0:43 The Basics 2:01 Setup 3:11 Security 4:32 Burglary Test 6:45 Hide…

I was hoping to see more scenarios involving stairs since the devs said it will throw itself off them if presented the opportunity.

It retails for $41.67/month for 24 months. So, is that a bargain?

I’m confused. Wasn’t Astro on the Jetsons? Or was that Dino? How does Scooby Doo fit into this?

What problem does it solve?
A product that can’t solve a problem is useless
Things I’d like a robot to do: Take a drink from a fridge and deliver it, clean the house, do my laundry, cook.
This doesn’t do any of that, all it does is roam around and act cute, but if it’s a virtual pet that you need, it seems like a $5 app would do a better job

The new CNET website is pretty difficult to read. Just a feedback. My initial scan of the page makes my eyes cross-eyed whereas previously I would immediately notice headlines for each article.

This is a waste of money and time. Its really in its R&D, and still a big joke to get it for $1500. Another major feature issue is it cannot be used in the house with pets. I mean who is going to get it lol.

Oh good. A rumba that doesn’t clean the floor. What a waste of resources and energy.

When did CNET change its logo? It looks old, like from the 1940’s … Not too fiting for a tech news company

Thank you for such a thorough review! I try not to be too anti-new tech after watching idiot babies ruin VR gaming, but I still find this repulsive. I also find it wild that this is as smart as they could make it. Sure, there will be updates, but the amount of time it would take to develop software to make this thing not trash will far exceed the life of this product. Claiming this is Artificial Intelligence should be illegal.

Congrats on the rebrand! Going to take some getting used to. I’m seeing a bit of a similarity to the Apple News icon 🤷🏻♂️

Completely useless if you live in a property that has multiple storeys or levels to navigate. Nobody sensible is going to buy 1 for each floor.

Robot vacuums has come a long way since inception, Astro is just a stepping stone in the direction of what’s to come, I’m really excited for what we’ll see in a few years from now, especially if apple and google decided to throw their hats into the ring!

Amazon is notorious for abandoning gadgets without warning. Think of the Fire Phone, Wand, and Dash buttons. Amazon Auto was also a huge fail.

Another expensive toy. Worthless to me, but it might entertain children (or product reviewers) for 10 minutes. That’s $100 per minute of entertainment. Nice work, Amazon.

“Amazon Powered Home”, no thanks, sounds like a nightmare! None of this stuff is necessary & just makes you spend money you don’t need to, with no doubt unreliable & possibly even dangerous results. Is it fun to pretend to live in the future, of course, I love Star Trek (pre 2006), but all of this makes life worse, really it does, life was better before all of this techno-trash ;-(.
