Glad you started with that Boulder/Rock climbing question. I see people in the comments arguing all the time saying this and that is not rock climbing. Typically when bouldering, people will mention rock climbing then you got these people commenting it is not rock climbing it is bouldering.

I am 70 years old, have had a shoulder replacement, a knee replacement, and three major spinal surgeries. I am still climbing – not as hard as I was before, but still on the wall. My surgeons have told me that I can NOT fall, so bouldering and trad are out. If I break a bone or a prosthesis, they cannot replace them. However, my spinal surgeon did give me laminoplasties instead of laminectomies + fusions wherever he could so that I COULD keep climbing. If you love climbing, you will make adjustments as you age.

Hey Alex why does John Bachar with his posted bet for 10 grand for anyone to follow him for a day gets a hero worship pass and someone like Lincoln Knowles gets a quick castration ? 🤓

Seriously? Not many climbers enjoy living in deaths shadow.

  125. @Reverie42

I’m surprised he didn’t call out Mountain Project for climbing apps. It has a lot more than just bouldering, but it’s the most complete database of climbs out there.

Kaya is another option. I think it’s a little more commonly used for indoor climbing, but there are entries for basically all the popular crags in my area too.

Great point about the parachute. Half the time when I go bouldering I’m more scared of how I’d hit the wall on the way down than landing on the mat. On the plus, it means I tend to climb overhangs, which is getting me some fun newbie gains.

Definitely a good thing to consider. Broke my leg and ankle hitting a hold falling a meter off a boulder because someone set badly

The most important question no one asked: how do they make money / living by just rock climbing? If not what is ur main profession?

  133. @cooperarbogast4018

    November 29, 2025 at 7:33 pm

A lot of people forget that after superglue (or at least its chemical makeup) was used for making airplane gunsights, it was used in Vietnam as a medical adhesive. It works very well in an emergency for closing small puncture wounds or cuts.

13:14 is there any kind of mountain left for Alex to climb? He would even climbed mount doom before Frodo got there.

12:43 I had a super similar question. I’m super (honestly more than I should be) thin. 5’6″ 95lbs. I want to start going to my local boulder gym, but I’m so weak despite being tiny. This is exactly the advice I needed.

Vertical life app in Europe was better than any guide book or website for finding routes, IMO. Better than that, you buy the guide book but get the app subscription for free, so you get the best of both worlds.
