How can Israelis and Palestinians achieve peace? Palestinian peacemaker Aziz Abu Sarah and Israeli peacemaker Maoz Inon discuss the immeasurable tragedies they’ve experienced growing up in the region — and how they choose reconciliation over revenge, again and again. With a fierce belief in a better future, they talk about conflict, safety, finding shared values and how they’re building a coalition of Israeli and Palestinian citizens who are intent on creating a path to hope and peace.

Instead of starting wars with each other, countries should just do this – talk face to face…have the whole thing televised live for everyone in the world (and universe) to see how we SHOULD be resolving differences and conflicts…
@hellarandom00
April 17, 2024 at 5:49 pm
This is so beautiful and what our “leaders” SHOULD be doing. If they did engage with one another in a compassionate and caring way, these conversations would not be necessary because the conflict would not exist. The true issue is the desire for power and greed at the expense of human lives. It’s time to stop resorting to war and replace blind hatred with compassion, empathy, and love. I remain hopeful and optimistic that this will be reality in my lifetime ❤

Isn’t it the dominating morals nowadays ?

We wouldn’t need an army. I wish this really was the reality, truly. It is not the reality. While I am touched by these two great men, I still don’t see the solution to this tragic situation, because there are more, overwhelmingly more in both sides that would never reconcile, and completely unforgiving. I have to stress, that the Israelis had the upper hand for the past so many decades. Only they can decide how to resolve the conflict. However I don’t see any willingness to compromise from the majority of their citizens. So all the good wills of these two gentlemen are drown in the tsunami of hatred, unless a credible force intervenes, thus the nature of human tragedy, that might makes right, one way or the other.

Israeli here: It is good to have a conversation with the other siide and be emphatic. What I don’t agree with is the notion that peace is always the only rational solution and war is a decision stemming entirely from hate or revenge. I think getting rid of Hamas rule is a reasonable way to react to a terrorist group that controls a territory with an iron fist and shows no signs of changing its violent course. Perhaps you can make a realistic argument for other approaches too. My point is just not be too judgemental towards people with different outlooks. It is not healthy to think of your view as the only brave and objective one and the other as weak and tainted by emotion.
@bluedreams517
April 20, 2024 at 8:53 pm
I had to go on a learning curve to understand this conflict and what led to it when Oct 7 happened. It took me weeks to feel like I had a decent grasp. I still assume I’ve only scratched the surface. The problem with this to me, is that each side believes deeply that they are justified in using violence as a means to meet their end goals towards justice and security. Both arguments can be persuasive about it and both are doing things in a way that strongly points to a deep dehumanization of the other side built on a riptide of pain, loss, fears, and injustices.
In this state, violence feels like a solution that will lead to results. Violence often has an immediate experience of satisfaction, especially when the stories of horrific death of innocents are muted. But violence further justifies the sense of victimhood from the other side. At some point if violence is seen as a viable solution, the other side will respond with violence again. It’s a death cycle.
I don’t judge people for seeing war as a means to an end. I just don’t think it’s really effective in the long term. This war is costing you as an israeli both international support, moral ground, and long term security. It’s traumatizing an entire generation in deep and irreparable ways that will absolutely create more of a desire for blood lust, if they survive the horrors that is Gaza right now. That’s a serious problem. Even if the immediate goal and reasoning had merit (and it did).
@eluna34
April 20, 2024 at 5:56 pm
I think this conversation is valuable and the people in it are speaking with genuine integrity. However its also worth remember this conversation is highly sanitized because both parties are aware they are being watched and judged for everything they say. This is not reflective of conversations around kitchen tables by both these diasporas (regrettably).

“I love you. And it brings me to the most important lessons I’ve learned:
That hope is an action.
It’s not something you find
It’s not something you can lose
It’s something you are making.
And I came up with a simple formula, a recipe, “how to make hope”
First, like love you cannot do it by yourself,
You are doing it with others.
And we are starting by envisioning a better future.
And then we are acting to make this future into a reality.
It’s act, we must act.
And through the process we always need to convince first ourselves, and all our coalition and everyone who is willing to listen, that
our actions are effective.
And I believe if we will be brave enough and brilliant enough, we can make this future into a reality.
In the new future that by 2030 or before there’s going to be peace between the river and the sea.”

Hello, May I share the most important news you will ever hear in your entire life? God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus Christ(Y’shua Ha’ Mashiach) from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. He was put into a tomb for 3 days, and then Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must all sincerely receive Jesus to be a true child of God. It says in John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Will you genuinely believe on Christ Jesus and truly receive Him today, before it is too late?

The one thing I appreciate about this is their willingness to ask difficult questions. Both are great examples.
It’s a start, but we desperately need more than warm and fluffy conversations. We need true accountability and reconciliation.
From the Palestinian side, the cost both historic and present is tremendous. Millions of refugees still await the day they come home. People in the West Bank live under military occupation daily, many harassed by armed settlers as well. People in Gaza – where do I even start..
