Only 10-20% of teachers are great.
60-80% are average and;
10-20% are mediocre

There’s probably a bias though: AI has been around for 3 years, that might be too short of a time to be considered as an answer when one asks students what changed their LIFE the most. Life changements usually don’t happen overnight. 🤔 Just wondering…

AI has been around for way longer than 3 years. It’s just the AI boom that started 3+ years ago.

July 27, 2026 at 6:26 am
@jcwynn4075true, but the ’90s models were niche. I’d say it was around 2023 when it became mainstream.

Sure, for dumb kids, human teachers might still stick around, mainly for supervision since impulse control and self-planning is something dumb children cannot get from an AI, but the smart ones, those who dont need human teachers to thrive on their own, the valuable ones, for them getting rid of the need to listen to humans dumber than them to learn something, AI will (and already is) a true blessing that will enable them to far outpace their peers without any teacher at all.

@strangereyes9594 haven’t you ever learned something interesting from your parents or friends or even people you meet with for a few minutes ?
@strangereyes9594
July 26, 2026 at 1:34 pm
@beatricetheves-engelbach8074 Picking up interesting things here and there is not the same as learning useful skills over a long period of time.
Equating those things is another reason why smart kids should stick with AI teachers instead of humans peddling trivial wisdom for knowledge.

From a guy with a personal teacher business I think we all know why he his so biased. AI teaching is a great tool, I’m not saying it should replace traditional teaching but it’s basically free and you can’t say it does it job poorly when you prompt it well. Anyway not the greatest TED show ever made.

@spindoctor6385 because you don’t just learn maths. You are a person with your particular confidence level, insecurities. The empathy you are taught is not the literal topic/ lesson but the manner in which you are taught.

If normal daily responsibilities sometimes feel unbelievably overwhelming, Clara Hartley’s anxiety quiz may help you understand why. It’s quick, free and surprisingly detailed.
@tehminazahra6058
July 28, 2026 at 3:43 pm
The result from Clara Hartley’s anxiety quiz didn’t tell me anything dramatic, but it did organize a few things in a way that made more sense. Sometimes seeing several habits described together is more useful than hearing separate pieces of generic advice.
