A rattle on a rattlesnake is really more of a way of saying, “Excuse me! I’m down here! Please watch your step!” They have a rattle to alert other animals to watch their step because of the camouflage on the rattlesnake can make it really hard to see.

Snakes on a plane at least tried to explain the hostility of the snakes with the pheromone scene. Some henchman sprayed the flowers given to the passangers with pheromones to get the snakes aggresive. Anaconda tried to go with the increased age leads to limitless growth.

When I was a kid we had a garter snake come up the broken pipes into our toilet. We found it because I went to pee in the middle of the night & it nosed me on the but (it did NOT bite me), but my 8 year old self screamed to shake the house. Dad relocated it outside. I’ve never peed in the dark since.

FYI, the “black racer” shown crossing the pavement into the grass isn’t a black racer.
Also, the Natrix sp. shown on top of the duckweed is a European snake, not an invasive species in America. That clip appears to be stock footage that was added without proper verification.
I’m not saying the expert answering the questions made these mistakes. He may not have had any involvement in selecting the footage. But whoever assembled the video did a very poor job, and that matters when the content is being presented as educational.
These are basic identification errors, and they damage the credibility of the video. I know snakes well enough to catch these mistakes, but I watch this channel to learn about topics I don’t know as much about. Seeing errors like this makes me question how much other information may be wrong without me realizing it.
Anyone watching this channel for educational purposes should probably verify the information elsewhere instead of taking it at face value.

3:52 That’s an Anaconda, not well versed with the species, but looks like a Green Anaconda, *Eunectes murinus*. They also give live birth !
15:36 This would be one of the Ratsnake in the *Pantherophis obsoletus complex*, colloquially known as a “Black Ratsnake”, although that term is very much outdated and problematic for various reasons.
24:10 This is a Grass Snake in the genus *Natrix* that occurs in Europe, Northern Africa and Western Asia all the way to Mongolia and Siberia. They are however not found anywhere near the Everglades.

6:00 when I was in elementary school and we were learning about the different classes of animals, the teacher said that reptiles are vertebrates. One kid then mentioned “then wait how do snakes go under doors then??” To which the teacher then proceeded to say that snakes were invertebrates 🤦 I stopped trusting a lot of the school system after that

when it comes to antivenom, there’s a drug currently in clinical trials that’s a pill form of antivenom that’s intended to be administered as a rescue medication, since a lot of snake bite related deaths occur on the way to the hospital

I believe New Zealand doesnt have snakes. The odd sea snake can wash up dead or dying, or sneak in with luggage. That always makes headlines lol. Our claim to reptile fame is we have a living dinosaur (tuatara) ..

how does the female snake decide whether to get fertilized right away or store for later? random? conscious decision? goes one way or the other bc of independent environmental factors at the time so something more like subconscious or automatic?
