We need to rebuild with housing in mind. The homeless might care what their houses look like, but having a safe and comfortable home comes first. If we need endless rows of modular houses, so be it.

Dwellings are a simple matter. Step by step they assemble to accommodate. Place is a separate matter. Regarding the dwelling one only needs to consider it alone. Regarding place one usually considers it from away. Away is no different than one’s place, in consideration. Else one has gone too far or not far enough, to consider their dwelling.

This talk deeply moved me by reframing homes as vessels of identity rather than mass-produced shelters. It is heartbreaking to see soulless development and war strip away cultural heritage. Yet, Joucka’s vision of fusing ancient traditions with modern technology fills me with profound hope.
