What if we treated the risk of pandemics the same way we treat the risk of fires? In this eye-opening talk, infectious disease epidemiologist Jennifer B. Nuzzo unpacks how the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 sparked a cultural shift in how we defend against fires — and explains why pandemics demand the same sort of reaction. She breaks down the data we need to gather when facing possible danger, the drills we need to ready ourselves and the defenses that could keep future threats at bay — so next time, we’re prepared.

Im sorry Jennifer I see right through this, this has nothing to do with epidemiology, but all to do with doing pr for data that should surveil us all everywhere, for the “safety” of the people. I wonder how much money you got for doing this pr.

Hard truths delivered by an Expert. It’s what we need right now. Thank you for the honesty and insight.
For anyone who thinks welfare is an unwarranted waste, I say this, your country should be paying you a basic income instead of taxing you. But, for some reason, some people don’t want rich people to pay tax. Why? Do they really think they’ll be that rich on day, and won’t want to be taxed?

Turn your TV off, stop listening to everyone else, step into the fear(it’s never as scary as you think) and for God sakes just live your life. This rigid way of living, eventually becomes more of a problem than the pandemic itself. You can be cautious and fluid at the same time.

Since February 2020, I have complied with every mandate and took every precaution. What did that get me? Travel restrictions, government overreach the world over, 2 years of pain, with no end in sight. The pandemic rendered my life meaningless. There will be no “next pandemic”, because unless we restore everything to 2019, this is where humanity ends.

It is a great test for the human family. Can it respond? Will it become educated about it? Or will it simply hope that it is just a passing phase, a cloud passing over their life, to which they seek to return as if nothing serious has really happened?

This pandemic is not about peoples health, it never was, it is economic in nature, the proof is that no debate is allowed. All over the Globe the same story is going down, the State declares what must be done, and their Main Stream Media servants repeat the fearful message, 24/7.
    An old quote:
those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
    A new statement;
for two years now, a global coup has been carried out all over the world, planned for some time by an elite group of conspirators enslaved to the interests of international high finance. This coup was made possible by an emergency pandemic that is based on the premise of a virus that has a mortality rate almost analogous to that of any other seasonal flu virus, on the delegitimization and prohibition of effective treatments, and on the distribution of an experimental gene serum which is obviously ineffective, and which also clearly carries with it the danger of serious and even lethal side effects.

The political “agnosticism” common to scientists’ language, shown here when she says “our leaders didn’t heed those alarms” (@ 6:15) is damaging.

Republicans didn’t heed those alarms. Republicans cut the budgets that dwindled staff and resources. Republicans are largely responsible for inconsistent and non-standard reporting of COVID data. Republicans killed the pandemic response team Democrats created.

Stop aiding the Republican war on facts, evidence, science and truth with this misleading language.

  36. N Rustica

What does this have to do with epidemiology? How does this correlate with home fires in the 19th and early 20th century? Data drills and defenses, in that order? Data since early 2020 appears to be purposely and/or inadvertently obfuscated by these obedient party line bureaucrats. Nothing’s changed much with this government complex since the 1980s AIDS outbreak. Their value judgments of remaining employed and pushing a mass vaccination agenda have been placed above the need to compile and publish accurate data.

  37. N Rustica

    December 21, 2021 at 8:16 pm

Flu season isn’t a drill, people die, both unvaccinated and the vaccinated. Along with the thousands of flu deaths, many people die each year from respiratory disease related to viruses. Epidemiology industrial complex is forced to “interpret” the selectively compiled data sets instead of just publishing the raw numbers that can often tell multiple stories. Citing Q-anon as an example of someone she disagrees with further obfuscates the situation, there will always be a less than 25% segment of the population that opposes ALL forms of testing and vaccination. I optimistically believe that even some of the most extreme true believers can be persuaded to dance if they are given plain truth instead of complicated variables mixed with power plays of controlling the story. I enthusiastically agree with the speaker on standardizing the fire hoses and water outlets. What did we learn from SARS Covid1 before this all started? We chased vaccines that didn’t work, that’s really what happened, now let’s get back to the flu and current Covid vaccine and its efficacy to prevent death it’s not that much not even close to immunization level, but it’s significant enough to help the millions of people who want it and need it, focus on them.

The 1% love crisis. Every crisis is an opportunity for them to gain more control and money.

People don’t “feel” the vaccine is not safe. People KNOW that it’s not safe. There are data from all over the world showing this. Trust me when I say if something is good, there will be people waiting in line the night before outside the vaccination centers and they will be people fighting to get it first.

Trust has been lost in world leaders, if there ever was trust in the first place. Giving each other space in our communities to have conversations as human beings will help us to rebuild a new life, in a different way. There has been a huge rise in communities coming together to help one another. This is the true potential of our human race. May we find a new way forward, in a collaborative way. One small act a day from all of us adds up to world empowerment. We only need over 50% of the world to do this. “We are all walking through this world trying to gain the same things” We can do this. Thank you Jennifer. ML

Investors want founders who understand the financial reality of their business. Messy data, misunderstood metrics, or waiting until you’re nearly out of cash to start fundraising can cost founders leverage, valuation, and even a term sheet.

In this episode of Build Mode, host Isabelle Johannesen sits down with Sasha Orloff, founder and CEO of Puzzle and Startup Battlefield alum, to talk about what he’s learned from building companies that have raised more than $1 billion collectively.

Sasha breaks down what investors look for during fundraising, which financial metrics founders should know by heart, and why VCs don’t expect your startup to be perfect—they expect you to understand its reality. He also shares how he nearly lost a term sheet because his data room wasn’t ready, how fundraising diligence changes as a startup grows, and why getting your financial house in order can help founders raise with more confidence and leverage.

They get into:
– What raising more than $1 billion across multiple companies taught Sasha about fundraising
– Why investors value founders who have a strong grasp of their company’s financial reality
– The financial metrics founders should know before pitching VCs
How investor expectations change from pre-seed and seed through Series A, B, and beyond
– Why revenue growth and the quality of that revenue are critical fundraising metrics
– How runway, margins, sales efficiency, and profitability factor into investor decisions
– Why waiting until you’re running out of cash can hurt your fundraising leverage
– How Sasha nearly lost a term sheet because his data room wasn’t ready
– Why financial organization and compliance can influence investor confidence and startup valuations
– What founders should have prepared for the due diligence process
– Why VCs don’t expect perfection—and why being honest about what isn’t working can make for a stronger pitch
– How Sasha’s own fundraising and finance frustrations ultimately led him to build Puzzle
– How AI could change the way startups manage accounting and understand their financial health
