Should be noted that yes, you have to have your calandars and email syncing to apple apps. But that doesnt mean you actually have to use the app. You can sync gmail to the apple mail app and just move it off your homescreen; and still use the gmail app everyday to get the best of both worlds.

I agree that Apple Maps has the best UI and clearest navigation instructions, and I’ve been faithfully promoting it … (6:48) but… as of yesterday that ended. In my country, it has the worst traffic notifications. I was just on a roadtrip and I observed how we ran into traffic several times and there was no indication on the map. Sometimes it would turn yellow only after we had been crawling for a minute. Sometimes it never changed yellow at all. I installed Waze, and not only did it tell me in advance when there was traffic, it knew exactly which lanes were closed in construction zones.

As someone who has found Siri up to this point to be absolute garbage, I have been so impressed by the new Siri. It has made information retrieval, which has always been the worst on iOS, so easy. Whether it is finding a work estimate I received several years ago or asking about the date of a birthday from a photo I took of poster in my daughter’s classroom that was sometime in the past 4 years, it has effortlessly found the info and presented the email or photo it was referencing. Combined with the ability to do all of this via carplay, Siri finds a new way to impress me every week. For me, my expectations have been exceeded and I look forward to apps like WhatsApp being able to hook into the new Siri.

@CNET This video is unfortunately clueless about the new Siri functions and abilities. About 90% of what is shown is either incorrect, uninformed, and/or adding steps in that are not needed. It’s misinformation.
1) Whyyyyy would you program the Action Button/Side Button for Siri when it’s already setup to load by holding the Power Button on the other side?? Does she seriously not know about it? How is she a Tech Editor?
2) The ability to add 3rd Party Apps right into Siri is shown in Settings under [Siri] -> [App Access]. It will add the data for that App into it’s On-Device cataloging. This makes 80% of what she is saying here useless. You want to use Google Calendar? No problem. Want to use Whatsapp or other messaging services? One quick click and it’ll work. No adding to the Notes app is needed.
This honestly should be taken down.

I created a shared shopping list and if I ask my Apple Watch to add something to my shopping list, it adds it easily to the Shopping list on my phone. It’s an older model 8 and I’m using the Developer Beta on my 16 ProMax. If I ask my phone to add something to the shopping list, it tells me there is no shopping list and would I like to create one. To it’s credit, when I ask Siri why it can’t add it to the shopping list in reminders, it sheepishly adds it to my ToDo list, close but still annoying since the shopping list automatically puts the items in the right section of the store and I can get all the produce on my list without having to look for everything in different places. This used to work in iOS 26. It does the same thing if I ask Siri to add something to the shopping list in CarPlay. Some of the new functionality is great, but it shouldn’t break things I’ve been using for years.

It’s hilarious watching you try this hard to dismiss Google, especially when claiming Apple Maps is ‘better’ and telling people to abandon Google Search [00:27]. Apple relies on Google for default search, cloud infrastructure, and core services, but sure, keep acting like Apple magically invented everything in a vacuum! 🤡 🤦🏾♂️

@yaboipookiepook Google Maps is amazing/King abroad however, Apple has dethroned Google Maps in the states.
@yaboipookiepook
August 8, 2026 at 4:58 pm
@InfamousHpDethroned in the states? Ask any commercial driver, delivery fleet, or daily commuter relying on real time traffic, complex routing, and deep location data. Apple Maps has gotten better, but claiming it dethroned Google Maps in America is wild. Google still dominates actual real world navigation.” 😂😂
@InfamousHp
August 8, 2026 at 9:42 pm
@yaboipookiepook LIES! zero commercial shipping/trucking companies use Google/Apple Maps. They have specialized software usually by Garmin or Rand McNally, cuz they need route data for overpass clearances, road weight limits & HAZMAT road restrictions. Go try to sound smart somewhere else
@yaboipookiepook
August 8, 2026 at 11:23 pm
@InfamousHpLet’s educate the armchair trucker, No real operator relies on just ONE tool out here. Dedicated truck GPS handles the legal weight and height envelope. Google Maps satellite view shows us dock entrance placement, tight turn radii, and live traffic bottlenecks before we roll in. It’s called layered navigation maybe stick to steering your sedan.
And your comment about “Zero companies”? You sound incredibly ignorant. Any competent driver checks satellite maps for gate locations and real-time traffic to avoid getting stuck behind individuals like you who lack basic driving skills. You should remove that ignorant comment while you still have some self-respect, Sycophant 😳🧐

August 8, 2026 at 10:04 pm
Yours works much better than mine. I’m on the developer version of 27.4 and Siri is slow slow slow and half the time tells me “something went wrong, Please try again” I find Siri sooo frustrating. Also I am unable to unlock my iPhone with my watch. I can unlock my laptop an M4 MacBook Air but not my M1 11″ iPad Pro or my iPhone 16 Pro Max. it only wants to see my face. That is with my Apple Watch unlocked or locked nothing but my face works. I have tried many setups way too many times. I will have an app open and I am driving I ask Siri can you do blah blah blah in the app I have open, it says Yes, what would you like me to type? I tell it and guess what? you guessed it. “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again” and after multiple times I tell Siri what I think about it LOL. I cannot pause I cannot say um Siri will stop and quit. If it does answer a question and then says do you have anything else I say yes and keep talking. But nooooooo Siri again stops and goes blank!
I live in Mexico as a US citizen and other Apple and Google Maps suck. Both have names and addresses incorrect. Bot have locations of businesses incorrect. I would love to drive around in the City I live in, in Mexico and correct or add roads, spelling and businesses. Now how do I get Apple to approve that. I have tried to get the location of an Animal Hospital that I used twice and Apple has them one block over which is a different veterinarian but not the Animal Hospital which is 6 blocks away. I try to fix this once a week and it has yet changed. Google has them at a completely different location. A grocery store that I like. When I first move here, I was told that this one grocery store is better than the one near my rental home. Yet using both Apple and Google they sent me to the incorrect place. Apple sent me to the back of the building, Google send me two blocks away. This is the same with many many many locations and this is my second city I have lived in Mexico.
Apple needs to hire some of us to do the simple work. Google has the name of my street misspelled and anyone using the map I have to tell them the wrong name, They still can’t find me because that road does not exist, but when they get close I flag them down. It is not brain surgery, use people in the area, use their data, hire them for a small amount.

This was a better review than most!! I still want to see the demo of people actually speaking in their natural cadence and Siri handle all that. Their demos are so squeaky cleaned scripted. I still want to see people stress test. After all, having this be really good is the least they can do after false advertising and selling iPhone 16 Pro. 🍎
But also in what way the Apple Maps is better 😂?? I guess just mean that the only advantage being that it is integrated with Siri?
Because every step of the way Apple Maps has failed me in recent trip and trip planning. Testing a side-by-side with Google Maps it was just comical.
