Sachs should understand that a frontier lab CEO can’t slow down individually or they’ll literally get kicked out of their own company bei their boards and shareholders. They need a third party ensuring that all of them slow down simultaneously in order to not get fired.

The companies should obviously voluntarily prioritize safety, but I would point out that history shows that “just sue them afterward” was not enough to get systematic premarket safety testing for drugs. It took catastrophes involving deaths and thousands of birth defects before that was implemented.

最近两家最强的美国 AI 公司（做 Claude 的 Anthropic、做 ChatGPT 的 OpenAI）出来说：
**“我们的模型太猛了，再往前冲可能有危险，大家一起慢一点。”**
听起来像做好人。
但他们同时想要的是：
政府帮忙定规矩、让几家大公司可以一起商量怎么慢、甚至少受反垄断管——意思有点像：**“我们减速可以，但得按我们喜欢的方式减速，别人也别乱追。”**
David Sacks 是白宫那边管科技的人，他听完就说：
**你们要慢，自己慢就行了。**
又没人拿枪逼你们下周必须发更强的模型。
觉得危险，就晚发、少发、先把安全做好。这是你们自己能决定的事。
他真正不爽的是后面那半句：
**一边喊“为了人类安全”，一边伸手要政策好处。**
在他看来，这很像：借“安全”把赛道锁死，好让就这几家说了算。
他还补了一刀：
中国才不会跟你一起减速。你自己绑住手脚，对面还在跑。

Instead of “hallucination”, Ken Ford suggests the word “confabulation” whenever AI confidently insists their bad answer is correct.
Similarly, I think we need to stop using “competition” when it comes to AI and China. Their models are open source.. anyone can download , modify, and run locally, so what exactly does it mean to compete with them? I think instead we should use the word “adoption”. We are in a race with ourselves.. the countries that best leverage AI to increase productivity or come up with novel drugs are going to “win”.
At the moment, China seems to fully embrace AI/robotics.. the only reason they can’t progress faster is that they are resource-limited (GPUs). Eventually however, they will get semiconductor manufacturing perfected and be equal then better to ASML+TSMC. Meanwhile, the US will fumble in its adoption, data-center construction etc.
