Six months into a catastrophic war in Iran — and with no end in sight for the war in Ukraine — the world is embroiled in conflicts with no apparent exit plan. In this interview, political scientist and Eurasia Group founder Ian Bremmer breaks down what these wars are costing people around the world — and which one he’s more worried might spiral out of control. (This interview, hosted by TED’s Helen Walters, was recorded on July 28, 2026.)

Britannica defines terrorism as “calculated violence to create fear for political objectives.”
The U.S. initiated this conflict with Iran, assassinated top officials , and threatened to bomb Iranian infrastructure “back to the Stone Ages” unless Iran complied with U.S. demands.
By that definition—violence or its threat to coerce for political ends—the U.S. is a terrorist state.

There seems to be a lot of disdain for Iran in this vlog. America looks like it’s trying to please the world, and are just waiting for the Ukrainians to finish their war. So what do we do with the blob in the meantime. Some people like decorating the blob – try that. Tssssssss. 😀

We need to consider how much more sellable stupid conflicts have become now that drones. precise missiles, and other human-less killing machines have enabled almost zero perpetrator casualties. Note the efforts the US made to ensure one downed pilot was not captured by the Iranians as a public hostage. If you avoid your soldiers in body bags, the public will remain complacent.

At 20 minutes you obsess over donny’s inability to accept blame and that no one else is available. I don’t disagree with the observational facts as you say, but it’s been the car sooo many times before. Donny just moves on and we do too. There is no leverage here for an insight unless it’s that accountability is not relevant in the early stages of autocracy.

And when exactly did Ukraine start winning? Every time I hear someone say, ‘Ukraine is starting to win,’ I just laugh. I open the map of hostilities and see the same thing: Ukraine is retreating on all fronts.
Russia is already at the gates of the last fortress – the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. This is the key point where the civil war in Ukraine began back in 2014. No one in the West believed that the Russian army would ever even approach this fortified area. And now it’s being taken by attrition:
– No electricity – sewage and water supply systems aren’t working. And that means disease carriers will soon start multiplying: dysentery, cholera, hepatitis A. In conditions of overcrowding and lack of sanitation, this will turn the agglomeration into a giant hotbed of infection. The troops will be wiped out by disease faster than by shells.
– Food – only what they managed to stockpile. But supplies aren’t infinite.
– Fuel – and this is the most interesting part. All gas stations within a 200‑km radius of the agglomeration have been destroyed. To be precise: all filling stations along the Kharkiv – Dnipro – Zaporizhzhia route and further east have been wiped off the map. No fuel – not for radios, not for generators, not for drones.
The Russians don’t need to storm anything. Just wait until autumn. And the entire agglomeration will fall on its own – from hunger, cold, infections, and lack of water.
And this will be Mariupol 2.0 (Azovstal 2.0), but on a much larger scale. According to various sources – both Western and pro-Russian – no one knows the exact number, only estimates. The agglomeration is estimated to contain anywhere from 40,000 to 200,000 Ukrainian soldiers. For comparison: from Azovstal, Russian forces pulled out just over 2,700 prisoners of war. Here we’re talking about tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people who will find themselves in a giant cauldron without water, food, fuel, or communication. This won’t just be a defeat – it will be a catastrophe from which Ukraine will not recover.
This isn’t war. This is a death sentence.

I think Ian is whistling Dixie on Ukraine. Russia just cut off Odessa, making Ukraine land-locked. Cutting off most of their exports. Ukraine had a peace deal in hand, the West said don’t sign it. The neocons won again.

My view on the Iran war
* Iran won and this time the war will not end before USA move its bases out of the Gulf and stop the blockade of Iran
* Thiel/Musk/Vance/Hegseth/Tucker will blame AIPAC on the failure. If USA follow it’s path to let White House ignore the Senate and Congress there will be no more orders of military equipment from AIPAC.
* There will be no kingdoms in the Gulf at year 2030
My view on the Ukraine war
* Putins strategy is to rebuild the Warsaw pact with vassal states where his oligarchs can grift everything they want
* Putins strategy will create a new iron curtain.
* Chinas long time strategy is trade with EU and Russia just be a transit land with natural resources that China need
* Chinas goal with the Ukraine war is to kill Putins hubris. China doesn’t see BRICS as some kind of “NATO” run by Putin.
* If FSB kick out Putin or if it is GRU that kick out FSB is an open question for me. But this is the way the war will end.
* There will be a peace deal created/dictated by China that will be good for both EU and Russia
* All FSB oligarchs have to leave EU and in return will EU open up trade with Russia (and China)
* In the long run will Chinas long term strategy win and everybody in Russia and EU will be happy
* The new world order will be the trading deal between EU and China (that Russia will benefit from). It will be a trading deal that benefit both parts.
* Only losers will be Putins superrich fat oligarchs that have to leave there life with yachts and prostitutes, but who cares.

Iran know this is the last war they will see and the old WW2 Israel attitudes are dead, we were gassed 100 years ago carries no weight. And it is important to them to not give anything or back down from their usual behavior, that is the part that does end it in the future, there is no path to any results.
