Six months into a catastrophic war in Iran — and with no end in sight for the war in Ukraine — the world is embroiled in conflicts with no apparent exit plan. In this interview, political scientist and Eurasia Group founder Ian Bremmer breaks down what these wars are costing people around the world — and which one he’s more worried might spiral out of control. (This interview, hosted by TED’s Helen Walters, was recorded on July 28, 2026.)

Dude we just want sanctions off of Iran and we will reform our government ourselves. Leave us alone

Removing the sanctions would just make the Regime even richer and make it even easier for them to kill you.

@thealmightyaku-4153 How would it make it easier for them? If anything the internal issues in Iran would calm down hence less protesting and violence and Irans hardliners would be kept in check as things normalize between west and Iran

@Kurdistanbiji2025 If it was so easy for them to kill you & defend themselves with all the sanctions, how is removing sanctions going to make it harder? Or less likely?

Things will not normalise between the West & Iran until things are normalised between Iran & Israel, or until Israel gets abandoned by the US. I don’t even like Israel – but I have to admit, both possibilities are equally impossible.

Lifting sanctions will not make the Regime any less repressive & brutal. If anything, it will only entrench & embolden them more; and expand their budget for repressive means & technology.

@t@thealmightyaku-4153 isrl is nothing. None should care about them. Irans gov largely took down mossad agents, speeratists and liberals, which im none of.

Damage to the Iranian economy doesn’t exist they never had the infrastructure to even qualify as an economy and I would prefer funding Iran war because it may in fact benefit Americans where as Ukraine does not

Trillions. US completely lost its status as a relevant power on the world stage and is now seen as an enemy by basically the entire rest of the world.

@MetallicReg thinking that the US was seen as good by anyone but the US after 7 decades of bombing civilians and overthrowing stable democracies for the sake of greed is very internal media informed lol.

@idontwanttomakeachan Well obviously – but there were many vassals that painted US in undeserving light. Right now those vassals openly define the US as a direct enemy.

  19. @LarryMandell-n4o

This is all happening because of Israel. That’s the reason iran is hated. Because they stood up to the West and to Israel, defending the Palestinians. And also the Western oligarchs want that oil back. Let’s be honest. All of the other analysis is BS
