Sony’s new noise-canceling sports earbuds are here! (review)

The WF-SP800Ns are similar to Sony’s great WF-1000XM3 true wireless earbuds, but they’re IP55 water-resistant and have “arcs” to keep the buds locked in yours ears. Are these the sports buds you’ve been waiting for?

WHY SONY LOVE TO MAKE BULKY EARBUDS? ALWAYS WEIRD BIG SIZED EARBUDS, I DON’T GET IT WHY THEY DO THIS!

    • Robert Vargas

      May 7, 2020 at 6:00 pm

Don’t know if that’s exactly intentional. I’m sure if they wanted they would come out with flush sleek earbuds but it’s prob hard to stick the drivers and other necessary components in a smaller housing. Would be nice though

All this talk about tight seals for sound quality, but not a peep about CODEC support! No review is complete without explaining CODEC support about sound quality.

    • David Carnoy

      May 7, 2020 at 5:22 pm

AAC. No AptX. If I mention codecs in a video I then have to spend some time explaining them to average consumers and AptX is limited to certain devices (and honestly, they don’t make a substantial difference with headphones at this level).

Maybe if they would actually look at human ears they would see more of an oval shaped ear canal and could design the ear piece to fit a little better. Round ear pieces are never going to fit as well as oval shaped ones.

  37. Hambo

    May 8, 2020 at 6:47 pm

compared to other earbuds how do these sound tho? like compared to Airpods Pro, Pixel Buds, Galaxy Buds, PowerBeats Pro, etc.
The WF-1000XM3s are more in Momentum True Wireless and B&O E8 territory.
Still, for $200 these are expensive when the “premium” ones are normally $200 and not $230…

    • David Carnoy

      May 10, 2020 at 12:05 pm

As for sound, they’re about in the same league as Jabra Elite 75t/Galaxy Buds Plus. Not as good as Momentum True Wireless 2, as I said.

@David Carnoy can you do a mic test vid with outside noise wind etc

  39. bridamy

    May 9, 2020 at 2:48 am

Oh God no. Why would you spend that much on wireless buds as big as those when you can get the Galaxy Buds for less. The Galaxys are much much smaller and look great in your ears.

The software has been getting numerous updates to solve all the issues they had at launch.

No. But it’s pretty comfortable. And it stays in my ears better for running.

      No.

  50. David Paul Morgan

    May 9, 2020 at 9:17 pm

Sony, Samsung, Google, Apple – doesn’t matter who makes them, I personally can’t wear anything that fits like this in my ears.
I feel the traditional “over the ears” noise cancelling “cans” much more comfortable.
I quite like the wrap around conductance ‘phones when out running – so I can hear the traffic!
