We’re living through oil wars, wildfire smoke and extreme weather driven by a warming planet. But environmentalist Bill McKibben says one thing is finally going right: the price of clean energy has plunged, making it cheaper than ever to power the world without burning fossil fuels. He breaks down how energy from the sun became the best option on Earth — and why this narrow window of time may be our last real shot at a different future. “Energy from heaven, not from hell,” he says. (Recorded at TED2026 on April 14, 2026)

Solar has a place in energy production. But it CANNOT power vast industrial plants.

The oil industry-paid bots/naysayers are astroturfing the comments, just like in every video promoting sustainability comment section.

The United States is run by dinosaurs that want to use fossil fuels because their leader, trump, doesn’t understand renewable energy and cares nothing about the future of humility or the planet.

He understands it just fine. They don’t need to think about the future because they’re so old so they would rather people keep doing the things which are profitable to the old people

No one wants more hydrocarbons.
What we want and need is nuclear power.
Wind farms kill 1.2 million birds a year in the USA alone.
UNACCEPTABLE!

Additional good news is that we can build a platform for digital democracy, and empower ourselves to make decisions more directly on issues from the local to the global level.

If solar energy was really cheaper than oil, than no one here would pay the electricity bill, but rather buy solar panels,If solar is really cheaper than oil, then tell me where I can buy those cheap solar panels.
(Btw the reason Chinese solar panels are cheaper is because they don’t have regulations for pollution when they produce such panels)
@andrewmara2401

People ARE buying solar panels.

just ordered 2 panels for 175 euros that will make my new AC run for free. They pay off after 1.5 years only and last 25+ years. its insane not to get any by now and theyre only getting cheaper.

Sorry to disappoint but we reached the point of no return- with climate change- oil companies knew and buried the files – so as a society we should sue them and the government for the consequences of their greed and corruption as the planet is dying they ate building bunkers and spaceships trying to self preservation but of course this is a travesty and despicable set of recourse as humanity and life on this planet is pretty much wipe out – 6th extinction- cause by psychopathic narcissist with self-serving grandiose ego demagogue complex pathological lying and manipulate and gaslighting tactics add with isolation tactics mixed with fake news and scapegoating the other side as due to avoiding accountability and responsibilities like a toxic relationship. We failed as a society 😮😢😢😢😢😢😢

In Sacramento, the power through the grid come from natural gas burning, and turning turbines.
And where do the materials for solar panels and batteries come from?
Child labor, abusive slave labor in the Congo and eksewhere.
And wind farms kill 1.2 million birds a year in the USA aline.
Your false optimism glosses over that.

The problem in America is the fossil fuel corporations, and Felon/Trump who they elected in 2024. Impeaching, Removing and Convicting Felon/Trump needs to happen now to make this a reality.

Moral platitudes without any substance addressing the reasons we should or shouldn’t use solar over other energy types. Waste of a watch.
