I tested its features, accuracy and battery life, and this is Samsung’s best watch yet. But it’s also the most expensive. Here’s who should splurge on the Ultra 2 and who’s better off with the Galaxy Watch 9.

I got the Ultra2 and I am never disappointed. The Ultra1 didnt disappoint either but after my time with and currently with the Classic 8; power playing and maxing my storage loadout. I needed the 64gb. I dont use my Ultra2 for fitness really, just everyday life crap like emails, calls, Urban Exploring and my “County Hikes”. Where I just load up a day bag and walk across a few counties. But the tracking and the ability to put the phone down is so great with this line of watches.

Love the “county hikes”! And agreed, those storage/power/battery upgrades are key for what you need. Have fun!!

What I want in a Samsung smartwatch is a physically rotating bezel

Get the Classic!! Still a great watch, and might be discounted now. Rotating bezel is also my favorite Samsung Watch features.

I stopped buying Samsung watches when they moved to this squircle design.
I know Apple have an advantage because lithium batteries can only come in squares, so having a round watchface means the square battery has far less space, but a square or rectangular watch can have a battery as big as the entire display…
But Samsung, start investing more in silicon carbon battery tech as it will allow you to shrink the battery back down again and undo that dumb squircle design that has chased all your customers away, especially that monstrosity that is now the “classic” with the rotating bezel that looks like a cheap Rolex knockoff from a Chinese street market.

The fact you have to load the GPX from the phone is an annoyance. A drawback is that this watch uses Google maps as a base. Gmaps lacks trail details so you can get lost using GMaps on a hike. If it comes to a fork on a trail for example, there is no way the watch would know where to go. It will only show you one trail even though there are two.

So apparently (once the update lands) it will use Strava for route info (which is good), but you’ll have to bay for the Strava subscription to access (not good).

@Vane-hand-orelllanaokay. I see that on their website. I wouldn’t pay just to import GPX routes.

The battery life is difficult to reconcile with having to charge it every 2 days its annoying when the Garmin is every 21 days.

True! Battery life is the #1 reason to get a Garmin! But I do love the Wear OS UI.

Samsungs “best” is a low bar. Their wearables have been plagued by poor HRT sensors putting them in the middle of the pack. The Quantified Scientist has had multiple Samsung wearables over the years on his channel and they all just never perform good. I, have had multiple Samsung wearables ( Galaxy Watch 5, 6 Classic and 1st Gen Ultra) and I find them far less accurate than my Apple Watches.
I hope that Samsung has improved the HRT sensors but I have little hope since five generations have proven little change.

I would agree with you about previous watches, however I think Samsung must’ve stepped it up this year. The Ultra 2 totally exceeded my expectations. The HR tracking during workouts was nearly identifcal to the chest strap which had never happened before!

not a fan of one ui 9 i miss my old tiles. the hands free def turned off it kept picking up convos around me. battery did get 2 1/2 but turning AOD off think was only 12 hours more. other then that watch is ok. battery upgrade was nice, came from the OG ultra. i miss how the OG ultra did workout tho, i could pause/complete without having to go back to health app vs now i have to go back to it then i can puase or cancel by holding the button.

Samsung watches aren’t worth owning. They’re really, really bad. The software is really bad. As a former Samsung watch user, I’ll say it briefly: they’re a pain.

If you have an original or last year’s model ultra stay with it unless you’re a diver. It does have an upgraded CPU but it’s only 20% faster than a 3-year-old model is replacing. To me that’s not enough of an upgrade over 3 years. 590mah to 800mah battery with absolutely no increase in battery life and they’re trying to tout this new CPU as more battery efficient wtf! Almost all of the software improvements will come to the older two ultra watches, so unless you need the better water resistance don’t bother with this.
@ShoeGod
August 17, 2026 at 4:45 pm
You don’t have the watch or watch the full review, did you?
@paintmasteryates77
August 17, 2026 at 4:56 pm
@ShoeGodI’m assuming the first part,”you don’t have the watch” was a question asking if I purchased the new ultra 2 and the answer is no. Now for the second part I’m assuming you’re asking if I watched the whole review. 2 which my answer is yes along with many many others. Conclusion, the only real upgradebover a 2 year old watch is the water resistance. Yes the processor is faster, but replacing a 3-year-old CPU with a brand new one should knit higher speeds and way better efficiency.

The biggest update battery life? The biggest update is that it is finally dive-capable, EN 13319, and high pressure water resistant IP69k.

I’m waiting for the watch to be round again and have a rotating bezel, I find a square to be totally ugly. I also expect them to be more innovative and actually deliver on their features. It shouldn’t take years for a feature to be rolled out or get FDA approval if that is what they market. Battery life also needs to be 5 days, not 2.
@klausghm
August 17, 2026 at 9:25 pm
Not sure where you got the 2 days battery claim. I had the 2025 ultra and lasted 2 days, now I upgraded to ultra 2 with the hope it would improve, no difference at all. Battery lasts 2 days still. I turned the cellular off, no AoD, screen only turns on when notifications come in, Gemini voice is off, heart rate checking every 10 min, changed the face to a simple one. My battery lasts 2 days and 3 hours….I love the Samsung design and fit but I just can’t justify it. I have the pixel and when I do weights I can modify my routine and record everything, it’s really good, never had an issue with the heart rate sensor, charges quickly, it’s just the perfect watch for Android. Yesterday I did a treadmill run with my galaxy watch, had the pixel on the other hand, I was at 165bpm and going up. And my ultra registered the info down to 110 bpm, after a few min it realized my heart rate was going up, not down…
