22:00 To say that 2008 wasn’t as bad as we have it today is the most asinine comment I’ve ever heard in my life.

Goolsbee basically said what is a fact, money is a faith based system and if we loose faith in it, what we will have is just piles of paper. The US Congress has done a horrible job for decades with helping to make the faith of money strong. Instead the wealthy have taken more and probably the biggest single issue is stock options. That is the biggest reason executives end up making hundreds or thousands of times more than the average worker at their company. The flood of money to these executives has given them the ability to takeover governments.

The lobbying system in the US is just a legal bribe system and members of the US Congress have just been soaking it up, for many decades. There was a time when members of Congress would introduce themselves as a representing some corporation. That was prior to the 1930’s. I fear we are heading back to those ways. I guess it is more honest if a member of the US Congress mentions who their biggest financial backer is when introducing themselves.

Gold does have inherent value. Go read a book about something other than money and abstract finances. It’s immensely useful in industry and has many uses as catalysts as well as in electrochemistry and countless more fields. If it didn’t have value we wouldn’t have been using it for things for nearly 10,000 years. Every element has a near infinite amount of uses especially ones with less common properties. That being said paper moneys value as a token still has real utility.

4:02 help me understand why the fed continues to target 2% inflation year over year when we’ve suffered recent inflation far above that number. What’s wrong with having a couple of years of NEGATIVE inflation? Why can’t prices come down for a change??

Wages not going is very simple: Union busting. No Union = Employees have zero cards on the table. Employers can choose to abuse employees within a “legal” parameter and all the employee can do is move on to another company. Which is exactly what everyone does. jumping jobs every 2-5y.

Obviously you have never dealt with AI on a phone call. It’s not just employment that’s an issue. It is the fact that we are all forced to deal with machines instead of people. Computers have shown over and over that they can’t deal with subtlety. AI has exactly the same problem. AI will make some things better, just as computers have, but it will force us to spend hours trying to find an answer that a human being could give us in two minutes.

he didnt answer the mortgage interest rate question. But basically, only a slow economy will drop it and inflation drops. Which will never happen unless we get another pandemic or we go into a deep recession, which the federal reserve wants to avoid at all costs and would print money to avoid it, further worsening inflation.

The problem with the data centers is that we are in a boom. A boom based on speculation. States and municipalities are giving so much to the companies to build them and when the bust happens they can walk away unscathed but the states and municipalities will be left with debt and a skeleton.

They don’t care if people are suffering, they want the rich to succeed.

A couple points. 1. You don’t want to overprint money because it will lead to inflation? Somebody should have told that to the last Fed chairman. 2. The Fed DOES control the mortgage rates because the Fed buys trillions of dollars worth of mortgage-backed-securities. Purchases that large have an effect on the rate. Or did you seriously think investors were willing to loan people money for 30 years at 2.5% at a time when inflation was close to 10%?

a super power with it’s citizens complacent is gonna make a hard swing of anti American sentiment for years to come. Y’all need to get it together and stop bullying the rest of the world cause the veil has fallen. The world sees the pig behind capitalism spreading out of the USA. It’s poison

Data centers are NOT good for the economy, they’re good for billionaires. They’re driving up the cost of basic utilities like water and electricity in the areas they’ve been built, because local/state governments are giving data centers a free pass and passing the costs on to the locals instead. (Not even mentioning the sound and environmental pollution they create.)

Stop building data centers and build more houses. Sheesh.

  130. @kennethlanning4694

    August 17, 2026 at 6:35 am

Having 10% of the population control 70% of the wealth doesn’t help on anything with wages and costs, either…it’s not complicated – make the federal minimum wage $25 and start a corporate profit cap and a cap on corporate leadership wages / benefits.

17:24 yes, you had covid driving up the cost of stuff. However, the disruption was temporary. The price increases are always permanent. You should have an explanation for why that is, but nobody can give you one that doesn’t amount to “greed took over.”

He’s “hopeful” that AI will just change jobs and not take jobs— he’s leaving out the fact that corporations are completely unrestricted these days and the economy is in the toilet because our government is so pro- business that corporations have more rights and benefits than the citizens! We have solid proof in our current president and his cronies that corporations need regulation!

Saying that technology has not lead to total unemployment before so it’s impact on employment isn’t something to be concerned about is a bit like saying we haven’t destroyed ourselves yet, so why bother worrying that we might? It strikes me as myopic thinking.

  160. @hooplax3

    August 19, 2026 at 6:42 pm

Riddle me this… what incentive does anybody have to lower the price of anything?
A couple years ago an item could have been $2.99, today that same item is most likely a little smaller quantity and now cost $6.59. People are still ‘able’ to buy that item. This time next year, it’ll be $7.80. People will still be ‘able’ to buy that item. A while longer it’ll be $9.15 and then nobody is ‘able’ to buy it. They’ll lower the price to $8.79 and say “new low price for said item!” and that will be the price for a while.

17:05 I can answer this question for you. Easy Peezy. Rich people got greedy and the profits only floated up, not down to the employees. Later in the video you explain if you put more money in the consumer hands it means a better economy. Obviously the rich don’t care about that.

  165. @DarthObscurity

    August 19, 2026 at 10:36 pm

The dollar has value because we have no choice, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with trust. Most of us don’t have confidence that the government ‘isn’t going to inflate the value of money away’ because that’s literally what they are doing.
