The ASML detail in that Mistral interview deserves more weight than it got. ASML isn’t just “at the table” — it led Mistral’s Series C in September 2025 with €1.3bn of a €1.7bn round, took roughly 11% fully diluted, became the largest shareholder, and put CFO Roger Dassen on the board. That round set an €11.7bn post-money valuation, itself double the €5.8bn from the year before. So $24.4bn today is the third doubling in about two years. The reason Mensch keeps steering the answer back to the semiconductor industry is that his lead investor sells the lithography machines every one of his compute suppliers depends on — and ASML is integrating Mistral models across its own equipment portfolio. That’s not a customer relationship dressed up as strategy. It’s the same vertical-integration logic Joanne Feeney described for Qualcomm and Amazon earlier in the show, just running through European balance sheets instead of American ones. Worth setting the two segments side by side, because the show treated them as unrelated stories.
