   Um, as a child I grew up in a very wealthy area, public schools were still just as trash and did not give good education. Maybe the buildings looked a bit nicer, but terrible education system

   The chinese study method she mentioned is probably only as effective as any other method because the chinese like many other asians spend most of their childhood lives studying, unlike in the west. That gets you good grades and academic knowledge, sure, but probably not the best mental health.

   I love the idea of a mistakes notebook. For many years I been taking notes when things went OK and also not OK on my daily job; and for the not OK cases I keep analyzing and updating my notes as I discover more details. Interesting that this is a learning method on the other side of the world.

   I had recess up until the 5th grade, but gym class only twice a week. Once I entered the 6th grade, no more recess, but we had gym class daily. So at least I was able to burn off some excess energy and wake up in the middle of the day. Except for that year I had gym class in the first period. That was so obnoxious. I would spend the rest of the day sweaty. (no, I couldn’t shower—they didn’t give us enough time.)

   Teachers in the US are treated like volunteers and viewed by a lot of people as failures because they chose to teach. They are often paid barley above minimum wage and are forced to take side jobs to make ends meet and pay to supply their classrooms. Teachers in other countries are highly respected and paid very well.

   Also the US is pushing academics too much and too fast. Kids need to play and move and do hands on activities. Middle and high school kids need hands on electives where they can learn practical skills or just fun hands on stuff. We need to bring back cooking and sewing classes, wood and metal shop, art and theater classes and stuff where kids can apply academics practically.
   Also no more homework until mid and high school and only for big projects. Kids need time to spend with friends and family, do sports or clubs or just relax.
   My 7 year old does school online because she is has AuDHD and a few other things and a regular school just couldn’t accommodate her.

    16:55 as teacher in the United States, I think the biggest issue that most of us face is student behavior and the lack of parental support. It used to be that you could talk to the parents about the students behavior and the parent would take care of it but now it is often the parent not even believing that there is a problem. It has been growing steadily worse since I started teaching about 20 years ago.

    the school systems excuse for eliminating recess which is “we need to maximize time for learning” meanwhile students in the US are always made to go to school at like 5 am in the morning and they don’t get off school until like 3 pm or 4 pm in the afternoon, which is how these types of excuses is what makes US school systems so out of touch with reality, if i ever wanted to have kids, i’d rather just homeschool them because i don’t trust the US school system at all, especially as a school bullying victim myself, if i ever put my kids in schools, what if they get bullied or harassed? what if they have a hard time making friends due to snobby spoiled school cliques? just no, also, i was born in 1996, so when i was school, thank god they never eliminated recess back then

    The use of AI is the bane of actual learning. It just gives them the answers (sometimes even correct answers) and interferes with critical thinking, learning how to find and sift through information and just plain think things through. AI will result is lazy and stupid adults. “Terminator: Rise of the Machines”😢

    Re: snow days . . . You are correct – in theory . . . Let’s be honest, its 2026 and kids won’t be going outside or whatever. They will just hunker down with their darn screens. If they are gonna be watching screens all day, may as well be learning something rather than rotting their brains with tic toc or whoever. They can have fun after school.
