I love how she brings the focus on healthspan and living a more comfortable life rather than just trying to extend a painful and degraded state. Rather than trying to extend life, focusing on the health problems with aging makes so much more sense and like she said would probably result in more years anyway. My biggest fears with aging is developing something like Alzheimer’s, it’s really reassuring to remember how hard people are working to ease these issues

Why would halting aging and keeping people young indefinitely be so far fetched considering where we are in our understanding and development in the rejuvenation biotech field? Resetting just 2 Yamanaka factors of a cell can reset human cells back to the cells of a 25 year old. Youthspan seems like a better term by the way.

I don’t care what you say my hang overs are 100% worse the older I get, I get depressed for 2 week after I drink these days, back then I never, that Dr would knock my aging back a decade I’m sure, on a serious note though because more woman love to 100 wouldn’t it increase the chances of them developing more diseases, older you are more likely you’ll get ill, approaching 40 how I’m depressed, edited for the 50th time having a baby at 66 wtf!!!

We age due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, the atoms in any system never become more orderly in of themselves. Now this law does not exist at a quantum or even molecular scale. According to Quantum Mechanics, if a system is only comprised of a few hundred atoms it can actually become more orderly in of itself. This is due to elecrons being natures king of craps shoots. Anything can happen at a quantum scale. However you, and the objects you interact with in daily live are comprised of an exorbitant amount of atoms, far too many to arrange themselves more orderly in any reasonable amount of time. The universe has been around for almost 14,000,000,000 years and it’s never once been documented.

I thought the aging faster in space was due to more exposure to cosmic radiation. Earth’s atmosphere blocks most cosmic radiation and that plays a part in DNA degradation.

Is this process of random accumulation of small changes in a complex system’s configuration over time somehow linked to the concept of entropy? I recall Schrodinger’s famous argument in favour of this hypothesis when it comes to explaining the emergence of life. Reformulating this idea in an overly simplified fashion, perhaps we can say that death represents just another side of the same entropy coin, where the probability of slight changes that positively contribute to the more complex and therefore chaotic overall arrangement of parts increases as a function of time?

It’s recommended that by a certain age people should get regular mammograms or prostate examines to search for cancer. (this is just an example) so my question is why does, in this case breast cancer or prostate cancer, target older people?
This person didn’t ask the same question, but I’m wondering if the same answer applies. These cells were going through changes much earlier on.
